This listing is for a 4HU Salisbury cobra differential. This is a new UK made casing assembled in a variety of different options. If you dont see your preferred specification please ask.
These are very popular for a few different early 60's sportscars. Known as a Cobra casing with the 4 bolt front mountings these were fitted in a variety of AC cars as well as some Astons (with machining), Bizzarrini 5300 and Iso cars (grifo & rivolta). These cases are well made and just like the originals. These casings meet FIA approval and are being used at a range of historic racing events. These particular cases (Crosthwaite & Gardiner ones also available) are drilled with 2 x extra holes for coolers. Threads on these are 1/2 NPT with work directly with cooler fittings. These are supplied plugged. This casing does not have the top 4 holes machined, this can be done if required. Additionally, we made a modification, the front 4 bolt holes have been machined 1/8" further back. This allows for any chassis discrepancies. You can easily space or pack it out.
The spec on this unit is completely customiseable. This is a unit built in house, our more budget builds are utlising a lot of used componets mixed in with new. We find our best success if from a mix of used and new components. This also keeps the costs down. Whats included:
- New UK steel cast and machined casing
- Output shaft housings
- Output shafts (SPEC TBC)
- Crown wheel and pinion
- LSD carrier and internals (SPEC TBC)
- New clutch plates
- Full set of Timken bearings and lip seals
- Used (faced and polished) pinion flange
- Used rear cover
- Assembled using new graded bolts
All used parts are fully cleaned and checked for wear. We do not offer crack testing as standard. Everything is visually checked. We have great success re-using many new parts. These units have all the serviceable parts replaced. Although this listing is the earlier 4HU casing we use the later metric taper roller bearing output shafts (unless you opt for Cobra round flanges). This can be used for cars with inboard brakes as well but you would need to choose the used late flanges or the HD new ones. We can supply these with studs, please ask. Typically for cobra builds we do not install them to make it easier to install in the chassis.

This unit is supplied with an original 45/45 ramped LSD unit. The preload of this is set between 40-60ftlbs but we can adjust depending on your requirements. We also have options for ramp blocks which we have listed as an additional spec.
This is an outright purchase. Your old unit is not required.
